Fokker 100 was a medium-sized, twin-engined airliner designed and built in the Netherlands by Fokker, now a subsidiary of Airbus. First flown in 1986 and with over 250 of them produced, Fokker 100 was one of the most popular planes ever developed in Europe. Its design was based on Fokker F28 Fellowship airliner, but featured more advanced engines made from composite materials such as fiberglass and Kevlar. It also featured novel wings shaped like raindrops to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency. Inside the fuselage, Fokker 100 could accommodate up to 116 passengers and had relatively wide seats with legroom considered above average for this class of aircrafts. It proved very successful in commercial aviation services all around the world until its production was halted in 1997 following Fokker’s bankruptcy. The Fokker 100 still continues to fly with some airlines today although thanks to years of heavy use, only a fraction of its total deliveries are still active in 2020.
